Kingston, September 20, 2025.- The Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the Honourable Olivia Grange, congratulated the elected and appointed women in the new Jamaican Parliament, stressing that he is « increasing the number of decision makers at the highest level » and to ensure their full support. Out of 189 candidates in the last general elections, 53 were women, 19 of whom were elected, and 7 were appointed to the Senate.

In her speech, the Minister said: « happy to see so many women running and gaining the confidence of voters », recalling that for a long time they have been indispensable actresses of political organization in Jamaica. For her, their stronger entry into the House of Representatives and the Senate is a decisive step towards more inclusive governance.

Ms. Grange also reaffirmed her intention to work with parliamentarians through the Caucus of Women Parliamentarians, established in 2022. The committee provides a forum for women's rights and gender equality, while allowing them to take concrete action to strengthen the inclusiveness of legislation and society.

« There is no drawback: we all benefit when women and men work together to meet common challenges », she concluded.
