Alix Didier Son-Aimé back in Haiti: security, elections and economy at the heart of a diplomatic offensive

Port-au-Prince, April 24, 2026.- Back in Haiti, this Friday, April 24, 2026, after his trip to Washingto, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé took stock of his mission to the United States. At a press briefing at Toussaint Louverture International Airport, he claimed he had obtained commitments on security, the deployment of the Gang Law Enforcement Force (GRF), the GST file and economic recovery.

After several days of meetings in Washington, the head of the Haitian government, Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, claims to have placed Haiti at the centre of international priorities. During his speech at the diplomatic fair at Toussaint Louverture International Airport on Friday 24 April 2026, he stressed a central message: « restore security, hold credible elections and revive the economy ».

During the mission, the Prime Minister said he had met with several American officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and former Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, as well as influential members of the US Congress, including Chuck Schumer and Gregory Meeks. Discussions focused largely on the security crisis in Haiti and ways to respond effectively.

The head of government has been clear: Haiti does not want a new ineffective mission. « We don't want an MMAS 2.0 »he called on international partners to honour their commitments, in particular with regard to the full deployment and adequate equipment of gang law enforcement officers.

Economically, Alix Didier Fils-Aimé reported that he had exchanged with international financial institutions such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the Inter-American Development Bank. The discussions focused on rapid investments in strategic sectors such as energy, digital and infrastructure to create jobs, especially for young people.

The issue of the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) was also discussed with US parliamentarians. The Prime Minister called for the continuation and strengthening of this mechanism in favour of Haitian nationals living in the United States.

He also referred to his discussions with international officials, including the Organization of American States and the United Nations, where he reiterated the urgent need for coordinated support to Haiti. Before the Security Council, he recalled that « Without security, there is neither democracy nor development ».

Finally, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of the Haitian diaspora, calling for a shift from a logic of financial transfers to a dynamic of productive investment in the national economy.

Despite the persistent challenges, Alix Didier Fils-Aimé expressed confidence in the evolution of the situation, believing that the commitments achieved could contribute to a gradual stabilization of the country.
