Port-au-Prince, June 12, 2026.- This June 12, 2026 marks the 31st anniversary of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) in a climate of high security tension. As the country struggles to restore order in the face of the grip of armed gangs, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé and the Director General of the institution paid a vibrant tribute to the police officers, welcoming the memory of those who fell at the front. Between promises of government modernization and realities on the ground alongside international forces, the HNP celebrates more than ever the anniversary of resilience and sacred duty: « Protect and Serve ».
Trente et un ans après sa création le 12 juin 1995, la PNH ne fête pas seulement sa longévité, elle commémore sa survie. Dans un message teinté d’émotion, la direction générale de la police a tenu à saluer le courage de chaque policier et policière qui maintient le cap malgré un environnement extrêmement hostile. Un « Honneur et Respect » solennel a été adressé aux nombreux agents tombés au combat ces dernières années sous les balles des coalitions de gangs, la hiérarchie insistant sur le fait que « la Nation ne les oubliera jamais « .
De son côté, le Chef du gouvernement, Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, a salué ce corps armé comme l’un des derniers « remparts essentiels de l’État « . S’inclinant devant la mémoire des martyrs de l’institution, il a rappelé que leur sacrifice suprême oblige l’exécutif à poursuivre la lutte pour la paix et la justice sans fléchir.
Beyond protocol speeches, this anniversary is part of a pivotal operational context. The PNH is on the front line of a war of wear and tear to regain control of the strategic roads and neighbourhoods of the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince.
In response to criticism of the lack of resources that often paralyzed the interventions, the Prime Minister Son-Aimé reaffirmed « Indefinite commitment » of its Government through three priority areas:
– The rapid increase in the police force;
– Strengthening tactical and operational capacities;
– The overall improvement of living and working conditions of uniformed staff.
This 31st anniversary takes place as the HNP conducts operations to counter armed gangs. The challenge for the Haitian police institution is twofold: to maximize international support while reaffirming its leadership and sovereignty in the field of national security.
Malgré les cicatrices et l’immensité de la tâche, le ton de ce 31e anniversaire reste résolument tourné vers la reconquête. Le slogan historique de l’institution, « PNH la pou ou, PNH la pi pre ou « , résonne cette année comme une promesse de proximité et de réassurance pour une population meurtrie, en attente du retour de l’État de droit. La République a renouvelé sa confiance en sa police, désormais investie d’une mission cruciale : répondre aux attentes de la Nation et contribuer au rétablissement de la sécurité.
