Port-au-Prince, August 21, 2026.- Several political groups denounce the risks of politicization of the electoral process, exclusion of voters and lack of independence of the electoral institution.
In a collective note addressed to the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) on 19 August 2026, the signatories challenged, inter alia, the proposed legal framework, whose constitutionality and applicability they questioned. They call for a thorough review of the electoral decree before the operations continue.
They are also concerned about the limited time allowed for voter registration and recommend that the CEP use the National Identification Office (ONI) database, updated with new majors, to limit exclusions.
The groups also call for strict state neutrality, equality between political actors, effective independence of the CEP and the opening of a permanent dialogue with the parties.
They warn that an election marked by exclusion or politicization of institutions could undermine the legitimacy of the next authorities and fuel a new political crisis.
