Port-au-Prince, July 10, 2026.- In an intervention on Magik 9 this Friday, July 10, Dr. Thomas Lalime returned to his article entitled « How many Haitians are ready to elect Wilson Isidor to an elected post in Haiti? ». In view of the many reactions to the title, he explained that his text did not constitute a call for Wilson Isidor's candidature or a political position, but rather a reflection on the place of the diaspora in national life.
Dr. Thomas Lalime provided clarifications on his article, which was widely commented on on social networks. According to him, the title was interpreted by several Internet users as a support for Wilson Isidor's possible candidacy, while his intention was to open a debate on the participation of Haitians from the diaspora in the construction of the country.
He explained that Wilson Isidor was used as a symbol. Through his career and that of many players in the national selection, the author wanted to illustrate the paradox between accepting the talents of the diaspora in football and the restrictions that persist in the political sphere.
Thomas Lalime recalled that Haiti's historic qualification for the World Cup demonstrated the decisive contribution of many players trained abroad. For him, this success calls for thinking about how the country could also benefit from the skills of its diaspora in sectors such as the economy, health, education, research or public administration.
The University clarified that its text did not propose to circumvent the existing constitutional provisions. However, he believes that the issue of dual nationality and diaspora participation deserves a calm debate, based on the national interest and the evolution of Haitian society.
During the show, Thomas Lalime insisted that his article was primarily intended to provoke a collective reflection on the definition of the Haitian nation and on ways to mobilize the skills of Haitians, whether they live at home or abroad.
