Cayes, September 11, 2025.- On 9 September, the Municipal Security Council of Les Cayes, composed of the City Council, the Public Prosecutor ' s Office, the police and the vice-delegation, issued a communiqué announcing a series of measures to secure and fluidize the school year. A four-day period is granted to offenders to comply, with penalties as early as September 15.
The press release states that all sidewalks must be cleared to allow students to move freely. The merchants of « pepè » as well as any travelling seller will no longer be able to use the walls or the surroundings of schools to expose their goods. It is also prohibited to block school or business entrances.
Garages will only have to operate in private spaces. In addition, trailers and large trucks are no longer allowed to park along the streets, day or night. The crossing areas, including Kwa and Lafama, will no longer be able to accommodate markets or transport stations.
Traveling merchants (barrows, trestles, boxes, etc.) will now have to integrate market spaces in order to free public roads and facilitate free movement. It is also prohibited to set up commercial activities in front of hospitals, especially in front of the Cayes General Hospital. Material and merchandise deposits on roads or sidewalks are also prohibited. Finally, car washing activities (« because wash ») are banned from public space.
The Communal Council stresses that these provisions are aimed at improving student safety, reducing traffic congestion and creating a more orderly environment for the school year. After the deadline, any offender will face sanctions.
