Serge-Gabriel Collin takes over the MEF: heading towards budgetary discipline and recovery

Port-au-Prince, February 25, 2026.- Located on February 25, 2026 at the head of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), Serge-Gabriel Collin has set three immediate priorities: increased mobilization of internal resources, rigorous management of public expenditure and compliance with international commitments, notably with the International Monetary Fund. In a context of recession and strong fiscal constraints, the new minister promises to be rigorous and macroeconomically stable.

The installation ceremony was held at the headquarters of the MEF in the presence of the Prime Minister, Patrick Pélissier, members of the government, the diplomatic corps and technical and financial partners. The Head of Government stressed the imperative of « do more with limited resources », in the face of a situation marked by several years of economic contraction and instability.

In his speech, Serge-Gabriel Collin made a clear diagnosis of the economic situation, believing that fiscal discipline is a prerequisite for the country's recovery. He stressed the need to improve internal revenue collection and to optimize the use of public funds.

The new holder of the Finance Portfolio also reaffirmed the importance of meeting Haiti's international commitments, particularly in its cooperation with the IMF, in order to preserve the country's financial credibility.
