Global Geopolitics: Jean-Michel Leprince alerts on a « new disorder » under Trump

journalist Jean-Michel Leprince, Latin American specialist

Port-au-Prince, January 8, 2026.- Guest of Panel Magik on Thursday 8 January, Latin American journalist and specialist Jean-Michel Leprince made an alarming observation of the global geopolitical situation. According to him, the Western hemisphere has entered an extreme unpredictability phase, marked by the weakening of multilateralism and heightened tensions between major powers, in a context dominated by Donald Trump's offensive return to the international scene.

A world where « anything is possible »

For Jean-Michel Leprince, traditional international balances are deeply weakened. He believes that, in an ideal context, international conflicts should be dealt with in the United Nations Security Council. But the reality is quite different: the game of vetos between the United States, China and Russia paralyzes any structuring decision, making multilateral diplomacy largely ineffective.

The veto, symbol of blocked multilateralism

He stressed that rivalries among the permanent members of the Security Council prevented effective resolution of major crises. This institutional stalemate paves the way for unilateral initiatives and direct power relations, accentuating international instability.

Trump and the « new global disorder »

Commenting on the recent actions of the US President, notably after the capture of Nicolás Maduro and threats to several states, Jean-Michel Leprince believes that Donald Trump's arrival marks a profound break. « All cards are recast », he says, evoking a world where established rules are thrown into the air, without visibility on the order that will emerge from it.

According to the CBC journalist, this brutal recomposition of power relations places the Western hemisphere and beyond, the world order, in a zone of lasting turbulence. Unpredictability becomes the norm, while conventional international regulatory mechanisms struggle to contain the ambitions of the great powers.
