Havana, 27 March 2026.- In the face of a total collapse of the electricity grid caused by an unprecedented energy blockade, the Cuban health system is turning into horror. In Havana, the arrest of artificial respirators following repeated breakdowns would have resulted in a wave of tragic deaths, illustrating the asphyxiation of a nation under geopolitical tension.
The situation in Cuba has crossed a critical threshold. According to hospital accounts and field reports, Hermanos Ameijeiras Hospital in Havana was the scene of an absolute tragedy during a general cut on 17 March: patients under respiratory assistance reportedly died due to lack of electricity. Although the authorities are trying to stabilize the network, the breakdowns, the third this month, make the survival of patients in intensive care, neonatalogy and dialysis dependent on « minimum electric » increasingly uncertain.
This crisis is not only technical, it is political. The US administration, under the leadership of Donald Trump, tightened the embargo by directly targeting oil supplies. Since the interruption of Venezuelan deliveries and threats of sanctions against any third country assisting the island, Cuba has reportedly received no significant fuel in the past three months.
In the streets, anger roars. In Ciego de Ávila, demonstrations broke out, marking the exasperation of food and medicine shortages. While Washington maintains maximum pressure to cause regime change by the end of 2026, Havana describes these measures as « Organized genocide », even refusing to import diesel destined for the American embassy out of dignity in the face of local suffering.
