Tabarre, September 9, 2025.- Starting November 1st of the current year, Haitian immigrant visa applicants will have to spend their interview at the US Embassy in Haiti or in the consular district corresponding to their principal residence. This decision terminates the Bahamas option, recently closed to Haitians wishing to file an application for the United States.
The National Visa Centre (NVC) will automatically schedule appointments in the applicant's country of residence or, failing that, in the applicant's country of nationality if the applicant so requests. Any transfer to another consulate must now go through the NVC and not directly through the consular sections.
Applicants should use the NVC Public Enquiries Form: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/ask-nvc.html.
Limited exceptions are possible for humanitarian, medical or foreign policy reasons at the discretion of the US authorities. This measure aims to strictly regulate the visa procedure after the Bahamas refused access to Haitian applicants, now directing them to the American embassy in Port-au-Prince.
