Agriculture Wonder Dorsainvil
Artibonite, 6 April 2026.- Invited on Radio Magik 9 this Monday, 6 April, the agronomist Wonder Dorsainvil made an alarming observation of the situation in Artibonite. Between continued insecurity, collapse of agricultural production, dependence on imports and lack of effective public policies, he called on the state to make urgent strategic choices to avoid the worsening of the crisis.
According to Wonder Dorsainvil, several areas of Artibonite, particularly in the St. Mark's region and the surrounding communal sections, are still in insecurity. The presence of armed groups impedes economic activities and restricts the movement of citizens.
The agronomist points out that this situation seriously weakens local institutions, despite the formal presence of State structures such as the police, the Office of the Commissioner and political authorities. In practice, these institutions are struggling to exercise effective control over the territory.
One of the major points raised concerns the decline in domestic production. Dorsainvil shows almost total dependence on imported products, particularly from the Dominican Republic.
He explains that some locally consumed products are imported at almost 100%, which considerably weakens Haitian producers. The latter, for lack of resources, fail to meet national demand.
Among the main obstacles to production, he identified:
– Lack of irrigation;
– Lack of accessible agricultural credit;
– Poor technical supervision.
He stressed that water and financing were essential conditions for reviving production. Without these elements, farmers cannot invest or increase their yields.
For the agronomist Wonder Dorsainvil, the solution requires a genuine political will. He calls on the Haitian State to:
– Invest in agriculture, particularly in the Artibonite Valley;
– Strengthen agricultural technical structures;
– Support local producers;
– Rethinking import policy.
He also mentioned the need to integrate climate change issues, which already affected water availability and production stability.
Beyond agriculture, Mr Wonder Dorsainvil describes a global crisis that combines insecurity, poverty and institutional disorganization. It warns against the lack of a coherent response from the State, which risks aggravating the economic and social situation in the region.
