Delmas, 12 September 2025.- The Education Community Police (EDUPOL) held a press conference on Thursday, 11 September to announce the Marathon for Peace, which will be held on Saturday, 20 September 2025 between Delmas and Pétion-Ville, in partnership with the United Nations, in order to promote living together and raise awareness of armed violence.

In the face of rising insecurity and social fragmentation, EDUPOL, with the support of the United Nations and other partners, launched a Marathon for Peace as part of the International Day of Peace. The aim is to put unity and cohesion at the heart of citizen life.

The marathon will start in Delmas 40B and end in Place Boyer in Pétion-Ville. According to the Chief Commissioner Étienne Jean Salvador, Head of the Community Educational Police (EDUPOL), this is « gather citizens around a strong message: Haiti can still choose unity and security ». The event is particularly targeted at young people, women and minors. Rewards are provided for participants, while a safety system will be put in place throughout the course.

Support from UN agencies and national and international institutions underlines the importance of this initiative. Beyond sport, the marathon aims to strengthen community resilience and foster a collective peace dynamic. However, some observers recall that this activity, although useful, alone cannot reduce the influence of armed groups on the daily lives of citizens.

The Marathon for Peace is a symbol of citizen mobilization and hope in a country facing insecurity. EDUPOL and its partners demonstrate that sport can serve as a vehicle for social cohesion, but that these efforts must be accompanied by broader measures to sustainably transform Haitian society.
