Mexico City, 12 December 2025.- The State University of Haiti (UEH) and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) launched the Makaya-Cuitláhuac Chair in Mexico City on Monday, December 8, an initiative to stimulate scientific research and exchanges between the two countries. Through conferences, joint projects and training stays, the Chair will address crucial issues such as poverty, resilience, human rights and historical memory, while strengthening collaboration between teachers-researchers and students from both universities.

The Makaya-Cuitláhuac Chair will serve as a platform for organizing conferences, seminars, research programs and joint projects, providing students and faculty-researchers with a structured framework to produce and share knowledge. The activities will cover priority themes such as environmental resilience, the fight against poverty, the protection of human rights, the preservation of cultural heritage, historical memory, migration dynamics and the phenomena of discrimination and social exclusion, and will take place alternately between Haiti and Mexico, with a planned start at UNAM.

In this context, the Rector of the UEH, Professor Dieuseul Predelus, took the floor to highlight the symbolic and strategic significance of the Chair and to express his gratitude to the partners involved. On the Haitian side, the Chair is headed by Dr Elinet Daniel, Dean of INAGHEI, and on the Mexican side by Dr Margarita Aurora Vargas Canales, providing joint scientific and administrative follow-up. The Rector recalled the importance of the figures of Makaya and Cuitláhuac, hero of resistance, and is currently pursuing his mission in Spain and France to sign other international agreements, thus strengthening Haitian academic cooperation.

Signed for an initial five-year renewable term, the Makaya-Cuitláhuac Chair is a major step for academic cooperation between Haiti and Mexico. By facilitating scientific exchanges and the production of knowledge, it contributes to the development of an integrated and inclusive university space, while providing students and teachers-researchers with a framework conducive to innovation, training and collaborative research.
