MCFDF launches the General States on the participation of women and the fight against electoral violence in the South

Cayes, 13 December 2025.- Minister Pedrica Saint Jean, from Antoine Simon des Cayes Airport, officially launched the General States on the political participation of women and the fight against electoral violence, which take place from 12 to 14 December in the south of the country. This national event, organized under the theme « Pa gen Demokrasi, or Eleksyon san fanm. Zewo Vyolans! »bring together political actors, experts, activists and institutions to reflect and propose concrete solutions to strengthen women ' s participation and prevent electoral violence.

The opening ceremony at the Hotel La Cretonne aux Cayes brought together political actors, institutions and feminist organizations, including Presidential Advisers Frinel Joseph and Leslie Voltaire, Electoral Advisers Yves Marie Édouard and Magalie Georges, Departmental Delegate of South Lynscol Charles, and UN Women Representative, Marie Goretti Nduwayo.

The Mayor of Les Cayes, Claire Daphnee France, recalled the importance for the South of hosting this event, while the Departmental Director of MCFDF-Sud, Claire Yvrose Élysée, presented the six main axes and stressed the link with the departmental assemblies from 4 to 10 December. Ms. Nduwayo insisted: « Equality is not a slogan, but an essential condition for the country's development. »stressing the need to include women in all decision-making spaces.

In keeping with this dynamic, Minister Pedrica Saint John stated that « the upcoming elections cannot be credible or legitimate without the full participation of women »and called for transforming the findings into concrete commitments. She added: « A democracy without women is an amputated democracy, a politics without women is a distorted policy », while Electoral Advisor Yves Marie Édouard recalled that women's representation must become « a key national issue ». These interventions reinforce the synergy between political actors, experts and activists, essential to ensure women's access to decision-making spaces and prevent electoral violence.
