White House informs US Congress of agreement to renew HOPE/HELP law

Washington, 20 October 2025.- The White House has officially informed the US Congress that it is in favour of the renewal of the HOPE/HELP law, a crucial mechanism for the Haitian textile sector. This was confirmed by the Haitian Minister of Trade and Industry, James Monazard, in an interview granted to Radio Vision 2000 on Monday, October 20th.

Minister James Monazard announced that the Trump administration has sent official correspondence to the US Congress expressing its agreement to renew the HOPE/HELP law. This law, which allows Haiti to export certain textile products to the United States without customs duties, is an essential pillar for thousands of local jobs.

Very optimistic, Minister Monazard welcomed this position of the White House, while noting that the Haitian authorities are still unaware of the deadline for voting in Congress. According to him, the situation is explained by the « shutdown » The United States is currently in force, as a result of protracted negotiations between Republicans and Democrats, temporarily crippling the adoption of several economic laws.

The Minister also said that, in the event of a non-renewal, the Haitian government is already working with trade unionists in the textile sector on accompanying projects. These initiatives aim to support the affected labour force, including the creation of local cooperatives and enterprises capable of providing equipment and facilitating access to alternative markets to sell their products.
