IDB reaffirms its commitment to Haiti: $110 million to boost agriculture and infrastructure

During a meeting in Washington with the Haitian Minister of Finance, Alfred Métellus, the President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Ilan Goldfajn, confirmed, on Saturday, October 18, 2025, a $110 million investment program focused on agricultural production and connectivity infrastructures. This new support is part of a broader economic recovery and regional cooperation plan, while the international community is increasing calls for the resumption of the HOPE/HELP programme and the stabilization of the country.

The President of the Inter-American Development Bank, Ilan Goldfajn, reaffirmed this Saturday, October 18, on his account X, the continued commitment of his institution to Haiti. « Excellent meeting with Minister Alfred Métellus to reaffirm our commitment to Haiti, the 2025 program and the 2026 plan », he wrote. The announced plan includes an investment of $110 million, primarily to strengthen agricultural production and improve connectivity infrastructure.

Goldfajn said the IDB will also continue its activities in the areas of health, education and youth inclusion, stressing that the group remains a « faithful partner » Haiti. Two days earlier, he had said that the IDB's commitment to Haiti « gains new momentum »recalling that more than $200 million had been mobilized in 2024, with an additional $283 million in grants expected by the end of 2026.

The IDB President took advantage of the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month in Washington to discuss the role of culture as an engine for dialogue and development, a message shared at an event that brought together several regional partners.

For its part, the United States Embassy in Haiti welcomed this dynamic of cooperation. In a press release published on X, she reported that the Under-Secretary of State Landau, at a MEF Haiti event at the IDB, had stressed the importance of security as a pillar of economic recovery. He reiterated Washington's call for the renewal of HOPE/HELP laws, which are essential for maintaining jobs in the textile sector and attracting foreign investment.
