New York, June 27, 2025.- The US administration announced the end of the Temporary Protection Status (TPS) for Haitian nationals, a measure that will take effect from September 2, 2025. This decision aroused strong reactions, notably from Amnesty International USA, which calls it a policy. « racist and anti-immigrants ».
On Friday, June 27, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem invited the Haitians concerned to return to their country using the resources made available by the Ministry, including through the CBP-Home application. However, she clarified that those who met the eligibility criteria could request a change in legal status.
Amnesty International USA strongly condemned this decision, calling it « cruel and dangerous ». The organisation claims that it is a continuation of Trump's anti-immigrant policies. « The Haitian GST holders have built their lives here: they work, raise families and contribute to their communities. The US government must immediately reverse this inhuman decision »said the organization.
The Trump administration continues to increase measures to reduce the presence of irregular migrants on US territory. In addition to tightening asylum conditions, the removal of the GST for Haitians is part of this strategy.
However, the authorities specify that the persons concerned may initiate further immigration procedures if they meet the required criteria.
