Port-au-Prince, 16 March 2026.- The journalists Junior Célestin of Radio Télévision Mégastar and Osnel Espérance of Radio Uni FM were kidnapped, Friday 13 March 2026, near the Sylvio Cator stadium, while they were making a report. Initial reports indicate that the two press professionals were intercepted by armed individuals operating in the area. Rumors about gang murder « 5 Segond » in Village-de-Dieu, but this information was not officially confirmed.
Speaking this Monday at Magik 9 microphone, Jocelyn Perez, director of Radio-Télé Uni, expressed deep concern at the situation while calling for caution in the face of rumours circulating on social networks and in some media. He claims that no official confirmation was provided by the authorities regarding the fate of the two journalists.
According to him, reports of extreme violence remain difficult to verify and could contribute to further confusion. Jocelyn Perez also points out that journalistic work is becoming increasingly dangerous in the current context of insecurity in Port-au-Prince, where armed gangs control several strategic areas of the capital.
The Director of Radio-Télé Uni calls on the authorities, including the National Police of Haiti (PNH), to strengthen protection measures for journalists and to conduct prompt investigations in order to shed light on this case. He also stressed the need to protect freedom of the press and the security of information professionals in a particularly fragile security environment.
