The case of the Temporary Protection Status (TPS) for Haiti is undergoing significant progress in the United States with the filing of a petition for discharge in the House of Representatives. According to Mr. Eddy Laguerre, this is of dual importance.
Politically, it reflects the existence of a majority in the Chamber in favour of taking the Haitian case into account. Indeed, the discharge petition allows for the circumvention of certain institutional blockages and for a text directly to be put to the vote, which is a strong signal of support for the cause.
On the judicial front, this may also indirectly influence the proceedings before the Supreme Court, showing that the legislature considers the GST as a matter of national interest requiring special attention. This reinforces the weight of the arguments for its retention.
