New York, 19 June 2025.- A United Nations report ranks Haiti among the most dangerous countries for children, with an increase of nearly 500 per cent in serious violations in one year. Published Thursday 19 June, report points at gang coalition « Viv Ansanm », responsible for a growing wave of children maimed, killed and raped, while armed gangs carry out coordinated attacks in the capital and beyond.

According to the Miami Herald, Haiti recorded an alarming 490 per cent increase in grave violations of children ' s rights between 2023 and 2024, according to the UN report. Haiti has already been on the blacklist of the most worrying countries for the first time last year, and now ranks third in the world in terms of increasing these violations.

The country now surpasses Ukraine, yet at war, in number of serious violations against children. The United Nations documented 2,269 violations affecting 1,373 children, mainly in Port-au-Prince and the Artibonite region. These abuses include sexual violence, murder, as well as attacks on schools and hospitals.

« Violations against children in Haiti are horrific », said a senior UN official, quoted by the Miami Herald, adding that the number of cases verified reflects only the strict minimum of atrocities experienced by Haitian children.

He also stressed that, although the real scale of the crisis is difficult to measure, the data already available show an extremely serious situation.
