Port-au-Prince, April 17, 2026.- The Haitian government officially launched, on April 17, 2026, in Port-au-Prince, the pilot project « Back to the Solino district ». Under the leadership of Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, this initiative aims to rehabilitate the affected populations with dignity, while accelerating the reconstruction and socio-economic integration of young people.
The Haitian government is taking action. An official delegation visited Solino to assess the damage and initiate a decisive phase of the relocation and reconstruction process. This mission marks the concrete launch of the project « Back to the neighborhood », conceived as a structured response to humanitarian and urban challenges in several areas of the capital.
Conducted in coordination with public institutions such as the Town Hall of Port-au-Prince, DINEPA, Civil Protection and ULCBP, the initiative is based on an integrated approach combining security, social assistance and economic development.
Representing the Head of Government, the Minister of Youth, Pythagoras Dumas, announced concrete measures in the short term. Among them, an ambitious vocational training programme for 5,000 young people, focusing on welding, motorcycle mechanics and solar systems, in order to promote their economic autonomy.
For her part, the project coordinator, Pascale Oriolle, stressed that this visit is the starting point for a sustainable process, part of a long-term reconstruction vision. The municipal authorities, represented by Yves Andrel Salomon, have also reaffirmed their commitment to support inclusive actions in favour of the inhabitants.
The priorities identified include strengthening security, psychosocial support, sanitation campaigns and the gradual revival of local economic activities. This project is intended as a strategic lever to stabilize and revitalize Solino, while placing communities at the heart of the process.
Through « Back to the Solino district »The Government intends to translate its commitments into concrete results by promoting a secure, dignified and sustainable return of displaced populations.
