Anse-à-Pitres, August 27, 2025.- A security meeting, held on Tuesday, 26 August, in Anse-à-Pitres, brought together local authorities and representatives of civil society, including Mayor Harry Bruno, the Departmental Director of the South-East National Police, Divisional Commissioner Magalie Belneau, and Departmental Delegate Jude Pierre Michel Lafontant. Called after rumours of an attempt to kidnap circulating on social networks, the meeting confirmed that the information was false and fabricated, according to members of the community.

The authorities and the inhabitants present categorically rejected the allegations that two citizens were the targets of kidnapping in the commune. They denounced the spread of these malicious rumors, which could cause panic among the population.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of continuous communication between local authorities, police and citizens in order to preserve public safety and tranquillity. Participants stressed the need for vigilance and collaboration to counter misinformation and build confidence in institutions.

Beyond anse-à-Pitres, in several provincial cities, local authorities are already taking preventive measures to contain the risks of insecurity. Strengthening police patrols, regular meetings with civil society and increased surveillance of sensitive areas are among the mechanisms put in place to protect citizens and anticipate potential threats.
