Santo Domingo, March 29, 2026.- The Dominican customs authorities recently intercepted several large amounts of undeclared currency at Cibao International Airport, including a case involving a Haitian national.

Haïtien in question was surprised in possession of US$ 15,000 without prior declaration, a violation of the regulations in force which requires that any amount exceeding US$ 10,000 be reported upon entry. Another Turkish citizen was also intercepted with over $61,000 unreported.

In total, these two cases represent over $76,000 seized during the weekend. Added to a previous interception of more than $350,000 last week, the General Customs Directorate (DGA) claims to have prevented illegal entry into the country by more than $426,000.

The authorities specify that these seizures were made possible through X-ray scanners and enhanced risk analysis systems, while reminding travellers, especially Haitians, of the obligation to comply with the reporting rules to avoid any sanction.
