When education resists: UPNCH graduated 250 students

Cap-Haitien, July 28, 2025.- Despite the climate of widespread insecurity that gangrene Haiti, the Public University of the North in Cap-Haitien (UPNCH) held, on Sunday, July 27, an impressive ceremony of collation of grades. Two promotions, 2019-2023 and 2020-2024, totaling 250 new graduates, were honoured in front of a crowd of academic, legal and religious personalities. A strong act of resilience and faith in the country's future.

The court of the Northern Public University in Cap-Haitien (UPNCH) was at the party this Sunday, July 27. In a difficult national context, marked by gang violence, political instability and the mass exodus of young people, the institution organized the graduation ceremony for its promotions 2019-2023 and 2020-2024.

A total of 250 students from different faculties and schools received their bachelor's degrees, in accordance with the strict requirements of the rectorate requiring the defence of a memory as a prerequisite for graduation.

The event, divided into two religious and protocol periods, began with the introductory remarks of the master of ceremony, Mr. Delcarme Bolivar. Several thousand participants were present, including personalities such as the investigating judge of Fort-Liberté, Jean-Dudré Desravines, the rector of the UPNOPP, Dr. Joël Michel, or the rectress of the South-East Public University in Jacmel (UPSEJ), Dr. Magdala Jean Baptiste.

In his speech, the Rector of UFNCH, Dr. Joram Vixamar, stressed the students' perseverance in a country where access to education is constantly threatened:« These young people have achieved something extraordinary in the history of the university world by obtaining their bachelor's degree even before graduation ceremony ».

The highlight of the day was probably the award of excellence to the winners: laptops, medals and scholarships for master's studies at UFNCH.

This symbolic success shows that, despite the climate of insecurity, several public and private universities across the country, notably in the image of UPNCH, continue to operate, both online and face-to-face, demonstrating the resilience of the Haitian education sector.
