Port-au-Prince, May 16, 2026.- The Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH), through the BRH Fund for Research and Development (FRD-BRH), currently finances 7 research projects from the 3rd cohort, for a total amount of 66,029,374 gourdes. These initiatives, led by local researchers, universities and firms, cover strategic sectors such as health, the environment, agriculture and innovative technologies. The aim is to strengthen national scientific production and provide concrete solutions to the country's challenges.
The Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH), via FRD-BRH, continues its commitment to applied scientific research. According to an official information note, 7 active projects in the 3rd cohort are currently funded, with a level of implementation ranging from 30% to 75%.
These projects started on 23 September 2025 and involve actors from the academic and professional world, including UEH, Quisqueya University, groups of independent researchers and innovative companies such as VALPLAST.
Projects focused on Haiti's major challenges
The initiatives funded cover several priority areas:
- Public health and the environment: A study on the management of medical waste using the One Health approach, integrating human, animal and environmental health.
- Ecological innovation: transformation of plastic waste into self-locking pavements by VALPLAST in Cité Soleil.
- Sustainable agriculture: development of a natural bio-pesticide against coconut pests and food crop diseases.
- Traditional medicine: ethnobotanical study of medicinal plants to treat infectious diseases such as malaria and tuberculosis.
- Artificial Intelligence and Agriculture: Creation of predictive tools to detect diseases and crop stress in the face of climate change.
- Climate education: "CAFECLIMAT" programme to raise awareness of environmental issues among students.
With an overall amount of over 66 million gourdes, HRB confirms its commitment to structure a national research and innovation ecosystem. FRD-BRH supports projects that combine scientific research with direct socio-economic impact.
The monitoring of disbursements shows a varying progression across projects, ranging from 30% to 35% of funding mobilized, and up to 75% of implementation for certain initiatives, including climate awareness.
Through this programme, HRB intends to encourage research oriented towards concrete solutions to national problems: waste management, food security, climate change, public health and technological modernisation.
This initiative is part of a broader dynamic aimed at making scientific research a strategic lever for economic and social development in Haiti.
