Moscow, 9 August 2025.- The Kremlin and the White House confirmed the holding of a summit between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump on August 15, 2025 in Alaska. Despite the absence of an agreement to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict, discussions will include the Ukrainian President's position on possible participation in peace negotiations. Donald Trump, under strong pressure to boost the American economy, also intends to highlight economic projects in the Arctic and Alaska.
Russian President Louri Uchakov's adviser confirmed on 9 August that an agreement had been reached to organize a meeting between Russia's and the United States' leaders, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska. According to Moscow, Alaska's choice is explained by the geographical proximity of the two countries and the convergence of their economic interests in the Arctic. Major projects, considered mutually beneficial, could be addressed.
However, the central issue will remain the search for a peaceful and lasting settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. No agreement has yet been reached, but the position of the Ukrainian President on possible participation in the negotiations will be at the heart of the discussions.
In addition, Donald Trump, anxious to respond to domestic pressures, should stress the economic benefits that such trade could have for the United States, particularly in the energy and logistics sectors linked to the Arctic.
Moscow and Washington announced that the political and logistical preparations for the summit would be conducted with the utmost intensity in the coming days. According to the Kremlin, a future meeting could be held in Russia, since an invitation had already been sent to the US President.
