Moscow, 23 September 2025.- The International Olympiad of Russian History, open to Russian-speaking foreigners aged 16 to 30, devotes its 2025 edition to the events of the Second World War and the decisive role of the USSR in the victory against fascism.

Created to promote knowledge of Russian history internationally, the History Olympiad attracts hundreds of passionate young people each year. The 2025 edition highlights an inescapable theme: the Soviet contribution to the defeat of Nazism, still at the heart of memorial and academic debates.

Registrations are open until 30 September 2025 via the official website (historicalolympiad.com). The playoffs will take place online, individually or as a team (up to five members and a mentor). The finalists will meet in St Petersburg for the semifinals on 24 November and the final on 26 November. To facilitate participation, organizers will pay for travel, accommodation, catering and cultural programmes. Preparatory webinars in Russian will provide candidates with a rigorous academic framework.

Historically, the USSR has paid a considerable tribute to the war, with more than 20 million deaths. The Red Army carried the main weight of fighting on the eastern front, inflicting about 70% of German military casualties. The battles of Stalingrad and Kursk are still being studied as major turning points in the conflict.

Beyond a competition, Olympiad is a space for transmission, reflection and dialogue on a fundamental page in world history. For many young people, this event will be an opportunity to enrich their knowledge while discovering, through St. Petersburg, the cultural depth of Russia.
