Port-au-Prince, September 23, 2025.- Invited to the show Panel Magik this Tuesday, September 23, Mr. Gédéon Jean, Executive Director of the Centre d'Analyse et de Recherche en Droits de l'Homme (CARDH), welcomed the progress of the sectoral table on security. In particular, it welcomes the prospect of replacing the Multi-National Security Support Mission (MSS) with a new force specialized in gang repression, currently under consideration at the UN General Assembly.
The Security Sector Table, recently held in the presence of human rights organisations, judicial authorities, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Supreme Council of the National Police, made several recommendations. Among them is the major proposal to replace the MSS with an international force to crack down on armed gangs.
In his speech, Mr. Gédéon Jean stressed the importance of an orderly and efficient transition. In his view, the international community must honour its commitments by providing the necessary material and logistical means to ensure the success of this new mission.
The CARDH official also called for enhanced support for the Haitian National Police (PNH) and the Armed Forces of Haiti, in order to better counter gang violence and restore security in the country.
