Dominican Republic, July 23, 2025.- In a note dated July 23, 2025, the Embassy of Haiti in the Dominican Republic informs that the Embassy of the United States in Santo Domingo has decided no longer to accept B1/B2 visa applications for Haitian nationals, regardless of the category of passport. This decision is the result of a new immigration law in the United States to restrict the entry of certain foreigners deemed to be threatening to national security.
The Embassy of Haiti in the Dominican Republic sent an official communication, dated Wednesday, July 23, 2025, to diplomatic, consular and administrative officials, announcing a significant decision from the Embassy of the United States of America in Santo Domingo.
According to this note, the U.S. diplomatic mission has suspended the approval of all B1/B2 visa applications submitted by Haitian nationals, whether they hold ordinary, official or diplomatic passports.
The measure is part of the implementation of a new immigration and nationality law recently enacted by the US authorities. This legislation, according to the presidential proclamation mentioned above, aims to « restricting the entry of nationals of certain countries, including Haitians, in order to protect the United States against foreign terrorists and other threats to national security ».
The suspension will remain in force until this legal provision is maintained. No exceptions are provided, even for holders of diplomatic passports.
The Haitian authorities have not yet officially reacted to this announcement, which marks a new stage in the migration relations between the United States and Haiti.
