Port-au-Prince, February 20, 2026.- The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cults, Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste, met this Friday, February 20, the Dean of the Honorary Consular Corps in Haiti, Dimitri N. Léger, in order to reposition this institution as a strategic lever of influence diplomacy, strengthen its economic role and improve its perception among public opinion.
At the centre of the discussions: the concrete contribution of Honorary Consuls to the stabilization and economic recovery of the country. « We need strict supervision and better articulation between official diplomacy and honorary consular representations »said the minister. « The latter, thanks to their anchoring in different countries, can serve as effective relays to promote business opportunities and restore the confidence of our international partners. »
Discussions also focused on the creation of a structured working mechanism to harmonize the actions of the Honorary Consular Corps. Internal coordination, the identification of priority areas and the implementation of concerted initiatives are some of the avenues for enhancing the impact of this development-support diplomacy.
Dean Dimitri N. Léger assured the Chancellor of his willingness to bring together all honorary consuls accredited in Haiti in order to establish a common roadmap. This approach aims to transform the Honorary Consular Corps into an operational instrument serving the country's diplomatic, economic and institutional priorities.
