On Tuesday, December 9, 2025, the Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES) announced a 500 million gourdes support plan for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and families in very precarious situations as they approach the end-of-year holidays.
Acting under the heading of Tuesdays of the Nation, the Director General of FAES, Serge Gabriel Colin, detailed the allocation of these funds, arranged by the Government:
- 250 million gourdes will be allocated to cash transfers of 10,000 gourdes per head of household to assist internally displaced persons and vulnerable households outside camps;
- 250 million will be used for the distribution of hot food, the supply of community restaurants in the camps, the grant of 105 off-site community restaurants, and the distribution of food kits.
Particular attention will be paid to the preservation of cultural traditions: Community restaurants will offer the Giraumon Soup on 1 January, a symbol of national independence, even in a context of crisis.
Serge Gabriel Colin said this operation is not limited to the capital. Similar actions will be carried out in several departments, including Artibonite and Plateau Central, where about ten camps for internally displaced persons will receive such assistance.
This broad programme aims to relieve families affected by violence, food insecurity and forced displacement by providing them with a minimum of comfort during the holiday season.
