Port-au-Prince, 15 July 2025.- During the weekly section « Tuesdays of the Nation », the Minister of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP), Antoine Augustin, renewed the argument for the free pre-school in Haiti. He presented a series of arguments justifying this initiative, stressing that it is unacceptable that preschool education should be left entirely to the private sector. According to him, the State must assume its responsibilities in this area.

This Tuesday, July 15, Mr.Augustin denounced a serious structural problem in the Haitian education system. He announced his intention to plead with the Government and the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT) to strengthen national schools, with a view to deconcentrating pre-school education and facilitating access to it for all.

At this 17th edition of the Nation's Tuesdays, the minister also warned about an alarming deficit: of more than one million children enrolled in school, only 188,000 reach Grade 9. This high drop-out rate is the result of multiple factors such as poverty, repeated strikes, family instability and lack of educational follow-up.

In response to this situation, the Minister announced a comprehensive reform of the education system, including the strengthening of the school canteen, the introduction of an automatic supervised passage, the improvement of educational supervision, the reform of pre-school education, the training of teachers and better financial management of high schools. The MENFP will now itself, he said, ensure budgetary control through delegated accountants.
