Port-au-Prince, July 18, 2025.- The President of the Presidential Council of Transition (CPT), Fritz Alphonse Jean, accompanied by Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, and members of the government, welcomed at Toussaint Louverture International Airport a Colombian delegation led by President Gustavo Petro, on an official visit to Haiti for the second time this year. This visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations between Haiti and Colombia.

The President of the CPT Fritz Alphonse Jean, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, and other senior state officials have received the Colombian President as part of enhanced bilateral cooperation, notably in the areas of security, training of the armed forces, and institutional partnerships, according to a communiqué from the Primature.

A high-level programme is planned, including meetings between Haitian and Colombian officials and a formal session with the Transition Presidential Council. The mission will conclude with a visit to the Consulate of Colombia and discussions with the accredited diplomatic corps. The Haitian government has reaffirmed its commitment to deepen cooperation and friendship with Colombia.

It should be recalled that President Gustavo Petro had already visited Haiti, specifically Jacmel, last January. During this first visit, he had met with the Haitian authorities and co-chaired a binational Council of Ministers with Leslie Voltaire, then President of the CPT.

The Colombian Head of State took this opportunity to call for unity between the Latin American and Caribbean peoples, warning against the isolation of those who refuse this solidarity. He had also apologized to the Haitian people for the murder of their president, rejecting any collective responsibility of Colombians.
