Port-au-Prince, April 6, 2026.- During Monday 6 April, a wave of protests shook several areas of the metropolitan area, including Delmas, Route de Frères and Bourdon. The movement against rising oil prices at 8:30 a.m. in Delmas 33 resulted in the closure of gas stations, roadblocks and a strong tension between protesters and authorities.

Anger is rising in several quarters of Delmas where bikers and public transport drivers have launched an operation to close the petrol pumps. From midday, around 12pm, the situation intensified on the road to Delmas, forcing vehicles from Petion-Ville to land their passengers.

Barricades, inflamed tyres and vehicles used to block traffic were reported in several areas: Delmas 32, 33, 39, 42, 75, as well as on Brother's road, Bourdon and Nazon. In some cases, individuals confiscated vehicle keys to force drivers to participate in the movement.

The protesters denounce an unbearable increase in fuel prices in an already critical economic context. Drivers, particularly affected, claim that they are no longer able to support themselves with the decrease in the number of passengers linked to the increase in fares.

A strong police presence has been observed in several hot spots, while tension remains high. The demonstrators call for a general mobilization to force the authorities to reverse the decision.
