Washington, 5 September 2025.- US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announces the mobilization of federal agencies to stem the flow of illegal weapons to Haiti and the Caribbean region.
At a joint press conference with its Mexican counterpart, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, on 3 September 2025, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stressed that the United States is taking concrete steps to stop the trafficking of arms from their territory and to Haiti, Jamaica, Trinidad and other parts of the Caribbean.
Marco Rubio said that the United States is working closely with agencies such as ATF (Office of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) and the FBI to identify and dismantle arms trafficking networks operating from states such as Florida, Texas and Arizona. This initiative is part of an inter-agency strategy to stop the illegal flow of weapons to the Caribbean.
In addition, the U.S. Congress is examining legislative initiatives, such as the Caribbean Anti-Smuggling of Trafficking Arms Act, aimed at strengthening resources and cooperation among government agencies to combat trafficking in the region.
The United States is committed to combating illegal arms trafficking in the Caribbean, a phenomenon that has a direct impact on security in Haiti and other countries in the region.
