Haiti advocates regional synergy for inclusive and sustainable social development

 

Brasília, 5 September 2025.- At the 6th Regional Conference on Social Development in Latin America and the Caribbean, held in Brasília from 2 to 4 September 2025, the Haitian Minister of Social Affairs and Labour, Georges Wilbert Franck, called for increased cooperation between the countries of the region. He highlighted the initiatives undertaken by his Government to strengthen social protection and improve the living conditions of the most vulnerable in Haiti.

In his speech, Minister Franck highlighted the joint efforts of the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT) and Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé to promote social inclusion. Among the key features mentioned are:

the single SIMAST social register;

Sectoral Social Protection Table;

the PSARA/Klere Chimen project, which already reaches more than 115,000 beneficiaries in the Grand-Anse;

PROPIPED for the economic inclusion of persons with disabilities;

and the PUMARSGV programme to calm and reintegrate vulnerable groups.

According to the Minister, these initiatives demonstrate the Haitian government's commitment to building sustainable and resilient social protection, in accordance with the ECLAC and United Nations guidelines.

Faced with the regional challenges of poverty, hunger and inequality, Georges Wilbert Franck stressed the need to put people at the heart of public policies. « Investing in innovative social protection systems is a collective emergency »he said, recalling that Haiti intends to remain a player committed to building a more equitable future for the region.
