Dominican air bases open in the United States: warning signals for Haiti

Port-au-Prince, November 27, 2025.– On a trip to Santo Domingo, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth obtained Wednesday's authorization to use certain Dominican airport facilities to strengthen US anti-drug operations in the Caribbean and Pacific. This military cooperation marks a new stage in Washington's regional strategy, but also raises questions among several observers.

Speaker on Magik 9, journalist Yves Marie Chanel said that part of the Dominican population welcomes this decision with skepticism.
« An express survey reveals that 10% of respondents believe that this agreement could prepare for a possible confrontation with Venezuela, rather than just fighting drug trafficking. », he stressed.

Beyond the internal debate in the Dominican Republic, Yves Marie Chanel calls on the Haitian authorities to be vigilant. In particular, he denounces Haiti's lack of initiative in border control, in contrast to the efforts of its Dominican neighbour, who has strengthened his air patrols.

According to him, the proximity of the facilities made available to Washington could lead, in the short term, to the overflight of Haitian territory by American military aircraft or helicopters.

« Haiti does not appear to measure the strategic consequences of this cooperation »warns the journalist, urging the Haitian state to anticipate the security and geopolitical implications of this new military agreement.
