The ex-Mayress of the Arcahaie, Rosemila Petit-Brère, arrested on August 10, 2025 in Puerto Plata while returning from Canada, was officially handed over to the Haitian National Police (HNP) in the afternoon of Wednesday, August 13. Arrested in possession of several copies of cheques of varying amounts, she was transferred under strong escort to the Departmental Service of the Northern Judicial Police (SDPJ).
Initially planned for reception at the Ouanaminthe police station, the discount could take place due to renovation work and a lack of logistical resources.
« In accordance with instructions from the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police (DCPJ), we received Mrs. Petit-Frère. In view of our material constraints and the work in progress, we immediately forwarded it to the Northern PDPJ for further processing. », explained divisional commissioner Jacques Antoine Étienne, departmental director of the North-East PNH, to the Newlist.
This arrest follows the release of a report from the Central Financial Intelligence Unit (UCREF), which suspects Ms. Petit-Frère de launderage to have been arrested. Transmitted to the public prosecutor's office in Port-au-Prince, this document sparked a serious controversy within Haitian public opinion.
