Port-au-Prince, 16 January 2026.- In a context where electrical energy remains a necessity for the Haitian population, especially in the southeastern region, the Ministry of Public Works of Transport and Communications (MTPTC) signed, Thursday, January 15, 2026, a contract to build a solar photovoltaic power plant in Jacmel with the international firm ESD Engineering Service S.R.L.
According to the MTPTC, this energy project marks the concrete launch of an ambitious project to transform the energy landscape of the South-East with the financial support of the World Bank through the SREP programme (Renewable Energy for All in Haiti). This project, he said, provides for a solution. « turnkeys » at the cutting edge of technology, while stressing that the installations will be located in Mont-Fleuri (6th communal section of Jacmel).
The plants will include 4 MWe (minimum output power of 3.35 MW); a battery storage system (BESS) of 6 MWh, using lithium-ion technology; extension of the network with installation of about 4 km of low voltage lines and 7 km of medium voltage lines (23 kV).
Thanks to the mode « Grid-Forming », this power plant will guarantee the stability of the electricity grid, even if the current thermal power plant is shut down or by low sunlight »added the MTPTC.
This project will be carried out by the MTPTC Energy Cell. According to the Ministry, this project will serve as a demonstration to prove the viability of renewable energies in Haiti. « In the long run, it will allow the replication of this model in other departments of the country »assured the ministry in a press release.
In addition, the MTPTC affirms that by sealing this partnership with ESD Engineering Service S.R.L, the Haitian government is taking a decisive step towards reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
