MENFP Communications Manager, Idson Saint-Fleur
Port-au-Prince, 16 January 2026.- In the face of serious dysfunctions in the Haitian school, the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP) is undertaking a broad process of national consultation. National Assises on the re-foundation of the education system will be held on 21, 22 and 23 January 2026 at Hotel Karibe, in order to define structural and lasting solutions to the ills of education in Haiti.
The Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP) intends to open a new page in the history of the Haitian educational system. Invited this Friday, January 16 on the airs of Magik 9, Idson Saint-Fleur, responsible for communication of the ministry, presented the main lines of the initiative aimed at initiating a national reflection around the refoundation of the Haitian school.
In this perspective, the MENFP launched, on Wednesday 13 January, a workshop preparatory to the National Assises on the reconstruction of the Haitian educational system. These meetings, scheduled to take place on 21, 22 and 23 January 2026 at the Karibe Hotel, will bring together key players in the education sector to draw up an in-depth overview and propose avenues for reform.
According to the explanations reported by Mr. Saint-Fleur, this approach builds on the conclusions of a thorough diagnosis carried out by the Ministry, which has highlighted many structural problems affecting the overall performance of the Haitian school. These faults, long tolerated, threaten not only the quality of education, but also the future of thousands of pupils.
Among the main challenges identified are the lack of governance in the education system, dropping out of school, poor implementation of ministerial programmes and guidelines, and challenges related to strengthening the teaching profession. In addition, the precarious working conditions of teachers, the deterioration of school infrastructure and the poor integration of technologies into education are added.
For MENFP, these problems can no longer be ignored. The holding of the National Assembly thus appears to be an essential step in undertaking concrete and concerted actions, capable of laying the foundations for a more coherent, fairer and better adapted education system.
Through this process of national dialogue, the ministry hopes to build consensus around structural reforms, which can restore confidence in the Haitian school and place it at the heart of national development.
