Dominican Republic, 21 July 2025.- The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Mr. Albert R. Ramdin, conducted a high-level visit to the Dominican-Haitian border alongside Dominican Defense Minister Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre. The mission assessed existing security and migration arrangements and welcomed regional cooperation in a context of high tensions.
From Pedernales to Manzanillo, the delegation inspected the military surveillance posts, the infrastructure of the Specialised Frontal Security Corps (CESFRONT), as well as joint operations against illicit trafficking in goods and persons. The OAS expressed its support for orderly border management and the protection of regional sovereignty.
A few days earlier, in Washington, Mr. Albert Ramdin met with the Prime Minister of Haiti, Mr. Alix Didier Fils-Aimé. He outlined his Government's priorities for security and inclusive elections. He also informed about the progress of the Provisional Electoral Council.
The OAS welcomed this political will and confirmed its support for Haiti through a five-pronged road map: governance, security, humanitarian aid, electoral process and sustainable development. A meeting of the Group of Friends of Haiti is scheduled for Tuesday, July 29, to strengthen international coordination.
On the ground, the OAS reaffirms its concrete commitment to Haiti and its neighbours. These initiatives aim to stabilize the region while supporting the return to a sustainable democratic and institutional order.
