Educational reform: rethinking the Haitian school to train citizens adapted to their reality

Stephanie Sophie Louis

Port-au-Prince, April 10, 2026.- Speaker on Magik9 this April 10, Stéphanie Sophie Louis calls for a thorough curricular reform in Haiti. It calls for a school that is more adapted to local realities, focused on practical skills, better use of Creole and a reshaping of learning methods.

During his speech, Stéphanie Sophie Louis criticizes an educational system deemed to be unutilitarian and disconnected from the concrete needs of society. According to her, the Haitian school struggles to train individuals able to adapt to economic and social realities, due to often too theoretical content and inadequate teaching methods.

It also highlights the linguistic problem. The use of French as the main language of instruction in a predominantly Creolophone environment is a major obstacle to learning. It stresses the need to value Creole as a learning language, in order to facilitate understanding and strengthen students' cognitive abilities, while opening the way for learning other languages.

In addition, she stressed the inequities in access to education, marked by the predominance of the private sector and the economic difficulties of families. It calls for a comprehensive reform that integrates both the quality of education, teacher training and the adaptation of educational content.

For Stephanie Sophie Louis, the issue is clear: building an education system that can train responsible citizens, anchored in their reality and able to propose solutions to the country's challenges.
