On Thursday, December 11, the National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP), led by Minister Antoine Augustin, released the results of the 2024-2025 Census of Schools, which reported 18,241 schools, more than 4 million students and tens of thousands of teachers across the country, data intended to feed the Information System for the Management of Education (SIGE) and to guide the strategic decisions of the educational authorities in Haiti.

The figures published by the MENFP give a detailed picture of the Haitian educational system. Of the 18,241 schools surveyed, 82% are non-public, while only 18% belong to the State. The total number of pupils is 4,028,897, of whom 861,812 are in preschool, 2,645,319 in basic education and 521,766 in secondary education. These data also highlight the teaching profession: 34,759 preschool instructors and 82,180 teachers in the first two cycles of the fundamental, highlighting the scale of the challenge of training and the distribution of human resources.

Beyond raw statistics, the MENFP stresses the importance of this information for the planning and governance of the education system. The results will be used to feed IMIS, produce statistical directories and bulletins, and guide strategic decision-making to increase school supply, improve the quality of education and better integrate non-formal education and higher education. The Ministry recalls that the reliability and constant updating of data are essential to the effective conduct of the country's educational projects and programmes.

These statistics are now a real lever for transforming the Haitian education system. They help to understand the reality of schools and pupils, guide government decisions, increase access to education and improve the quality of education throughout the country.
