Port-au-Prince, November 20, 2025.- Fresh vegetables, starch, fruit and other local products have been unavailable in the capital's public markets for several days; the reason is known to all, insecurity.
Anna, a mother, claims to have travelled through three markets in Delmas and Pétion-Ville. « That's disturbing. »She deplores the fact that the markets are almost without local products.
On the other hand, the merchants refer to their difficulties in sourcing, since the main roads are controlled by armed civilians, transformed into illegal tax collectors. According to Marilène, a fruit seller, illegal tolls are increasing at an alarming rate. For a journey of 10 kms (25 minutes); users may have to pay up to four or five rights of passage to different groups. It also describes the situation of the peasants expelled from their villages and denied access to their plantations, as is the case in Fermathe, Kensckoff, Gressier, Montrouis or Cabaret, agricultural areas indispensable for supplying markets in Port-au-Prince.
An urgent appeal is being made to the authorities responsible for national security, as this situation exposes the vulnerability of families already exposed to political instability and food insecurity.
