New York, September 30, 2025.- On Tuesday, 30 September, the United Nations Security Council adopted resolution 2793 approving the deployment of an enhanced international force of up to 5,500 members to assist Haiti in the fight against armed gangs. Adopted by 12 votes to none with three abstentions, this initiative aims to protect civilians, support local authorities and restore stability, with the support of a United Nations Support Office for Logistics and Operations.
However, previous UN missions, including the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), are strongly criticized in Haiti for their failures in security, disarmament, the fight against impunity and the strengthening of the rule of law, leaving a bitter memory and undermining the credibility of the organization.
In this context of international mobilization and widespread chaos in the country, the prospect of a lasting solution remains uncertain.
It should be noted that this new force will succeed the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS), deployed in Haiti in June 2024 and led by Kenya.
