Kathmandu, September 9, 2025.- A serious crisis has shaken Nepal since the beginning of the week, caused by the government's controversial decision to block access to social networks. On Tuesday 9 September, popular anger reached its peak with the burning of Parliament in Kathmandu and the resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

The violence, which began on Monday, has already resulted in 19 deaths and more than 400 injuries, according to provisional reports. Despite the introduction of a curfew, protesters challenged the authorities, storming public buildings, burning official residences and confronting law enforcement forces.

According to AFP, a group of protesters even seized weapons belonging to police officers stationed around the government complex in Singha Durbar. The Prime Minister's house did not escape popular fury: it was burned down in the morning, forcing Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli announced his resignation for « facilitating a political exit from the crisis ».

In the streets, protesters express their relief, claiming a victory against a power deemed authoritarian and corrupt. « This is the beginning of a new chapter. The country now belongs to us », some say, galvanized by this historic fall of power in place.
