Brasília, September 9, 2025.- Brazil's President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, at a virtual meeting of the Brics on Monday, 8 September, denounced the growing use of the Brics in the United States. « Customs blackmail » as a weapon of economic and political interference.
The Brazilian Head of State stated that this mechanism is in the process of « Standardize » to the detriment of the sovereignty of emerging countries. « Customs blackmail becomes a tool to conquer markets and interfere in internal affairs », he hammered, according to the speech made public by his services.
This exit came as Washington increased restrictive trade measures against Brazil, reviving an economic war with direct repercussions on Brazilian agricultural and industrial exports.
Virtually gathered, the members of the Brics (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) took note of this denunciation, which places the debate on global trade governance at the heart of their discussions.
