Massacre to Jean-Denis: at least 30 dead, the gang "Gran Grif" sows terror in Artibonite

Bertide Horace

Artibonite, March 30, 2026.- Between March 28 and 30, 2026, the locality of Jean-Denis, Artibonite, was the scene of deadly attacks attributed to the gang « Gran Grif ». According to testimonies relayed on Radio Magik 9 and an intervention by the National Police of Haiti (PNH), the provisional assessment reported at least thirty deaths, several injuries and significant material damage, despite a joint operation with Kenyan forces.

During the show Panel Magik broadcast this Monday, March 30, 2026, journalist Bertide Horace reported that the violence began on the night of Saturday 28 to Sunday 29 March, on the margins of rara cultural activities, attracting many inhabitants to the area. Armed assailants opened fire, burned houses and caused mass displacement. The balance sheet, still provisional, evokes about 30 bodies already recorded, with several missing persons.

For its part, the PNH confirmed an intervention conducted on 29 March 2026 in Jean-Denis, in support of Kenyan forces. The authorities report that the gangs had dug trenches to slow down access by law enforcement. Prior to their arrival, at least 16 people had been killed, 10 injured and several houses burned. Police claim to have regained control of the area and continue operations to track down gang members.

Despite this intervention, the situation remains worrying in Artibonite, particularly in the vicinity of Saint Mark, where armed groups continue to exercise territorial control and threaten the population. The lack of stability and the lack of security reinforces concern over the recurrence of such massacres.
