The Holy See announced Wednesday, February 4, 2026, the appointment of Nigerian Archbishop Jude Thaddeus Okolo as the new Apostolic Nuncio in Haiti. This decision is part of the Vatican's desire to consolidate its diplomatic and pastoral presence in the country.
An experienced diplomat, Bishop Okolo has over thirty years of experience in the service of the Holy See. Joined Vatican diplomacy in 1990, he held several positions in apostolic nunciatures around the world, including Sri Lanka, Haiti, Australia and Switzerland.
Polyglot and recognized for his fine understanding of diverse cultural realities, Bishop Jude Thaddeus Okolo is considered a seasoned diplomat capable of evolving in complex and sensitive contexts. His return to Haiti comes in a national context marked by many political, security and social challenges.
