The Minister of Social Affairs and Labour, Marc-Elie Nelson, accompanied by the Managing Director of the Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES), Kesner Romilus, visited the site to assess the situation and supervise the delivery of food and health kits to families present on the site.
According to information provided by the authorities, approximately 4,800 persons, representing 1,540 heads of household, were assisted to meet the most urgent needs. The internally displaced persons have been living on the site since March 2025 in conditions deemed particularly difficult, with limited access to food, drinking water, health care and adequate shelter. Promiscuity, lack of health infrastructure and risks related to unsafe living are also identified as key concerns.
Speaking during the visit, Minister Marc-Elie Nelson stressed that caring for internally displaced persons remains a priority issue, citing the need to strengthen social protection mechanisms for the most vulnerable populations. He also stressed the importance of restoring security and State authority as an essential condition for any lasting improvement in the humanitarian situation.
The authorities announce that further interventions are being considered at several sites hosting displaced families in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince. These actions should be accompanied by social support measures aimed at improving living conditions in the camps and facilitating, where security conditions permit, the return of families to their areas of origin.
The situation of internally displaced persons continues to raise growing concerns, while the increase in armed violence has resulted in the displacement of thousands of families in and around the capital.
